Why Float?

At Weightless, we jokingly say, “check-in or check-out”. Sometimes you just need a moment. Some people sleep. Some people meditate. Some people drift listlessly through thoughts, while others take the opportunity to stretch and enjoy the buoyancy of the float solution— it feels great to have no weight on your joints and your bones. The ol’ power-down power-up does wonders for your brain-body connection.

There’s no wrong way to float, and you’ll feel better afterwards. Try it.

What are the benefits of Weightless floating?

Check out our page dedicated to the Info and Benefits of Floating.

How long has Weightless float center been a thing?

December of 2015 was when we began our buildout, and April 2016 was our opening day— almost 8yrs!

What kind of tanks do you use?

Check out the ‘Our Tanks’ page. All four tanks have the same amount of water and salt, a powerful UV filtration system, and the option for lights and music.

If you're on the taller side of things we recommend either the Float Cabins (3 or 4), or The Escape Pod (2).

What Can I Expect?

Absolutely nothing. Visit our What to Expect page.

why 90min?

While some float centers offer 60min. floats, many (and us at Weightless Float Center) believe that 90min. is the PERFECT amount of time for a float. Assuming you arrive early, have no questions, filled out the liability wavier online and are ready to begin your float immediately it takes the body and mind a moment to relax.  Plus, its just so cool its tough to not get excited your first several times!

Through EEG (brain wave monitoring) studies show that in order to transition into the Theta wave state (R.E.M. & deep meditation) the mind must settle down from the day-to-day of constant sensory input. Once you get settled in, we want you to have time to enjoy that state, not have to get out.

At Weightless Float Center it's about you.

How Do You Keep the Water Clean?

A great question with A LOT of info. Visit our Sanitation page.

do you have a pre-float meditation i can read/listen to?

YES! click here.

do i have to close the lid and turn off the light?

Not if you don’t want to. You' have 100% control of your float experience. We do, however, highly recommend it.

How will I know when my float is over?

Music will gently fade in and the lights will turn on. Step out of your float tank, take a shower, and continue on to your next service or to the lounge.

Can I float if I’m pregnant?

Pregnant women love floating!   There is even a special position you can float in that relieves all of the weight of the baby off of the mother’s body which can be a great help to those suffering from lower back pain. If you are in your third trimester, or have any concerns, please consult with your physician before coming in. Read Floating While Pregnant

what do i wear, and how should i prepare?

You can wear a bathing suit if you'd like, but it is not required.  You are in your own room with your own shower and your own float tank.  It is very private.

We provide towels, bathrobes, earplugs, shampoo/conditioner/bodywash, lotion, hairdryers, etc.

Read our WHAT TO EXPECT flow.

What if I’m claustrophobic?

Being in the tanks is more like floating in outer space than being shut in a box.  If you are OK being in your car with windows up you'll be OK in a float tank. You’re always in control of your environment, and even people with extreme claustrophobia have reported having no problems during their time in the tank. You can always leave the door open and the light on for as long as you like – again, you’re in control.

Do I have to stay in the whole time?

There aren’t any latches on the tank doors, and you can get out anytime. That being said, the 90-minutes usually goes by waaaay faster than you’d expect.

Plus, if you get out early you can rest assured that our 90min. floats are less expensive than most 60min floats.

what if i fall asleep in the tank?

The water in the tank is incredibly buoyant and very relaxing – it’s entirely possible that you could fall asleep. Indeed, some people love to sleep during their float and you should feel free to do the same! It’s extremely unlikely that you’ll roll in your sleep in which case the worst that can happen is getting woken up by a bit of salt water in your eyes or mouth.

Can I float if its ‘that-time-of-the-month’?

Yes. Just follow the same protocol you would for a swimming pool.

Do I need to bring anything?

If you have longer hair, you may want to bring a comb. Also, something to put your contact lenses into while you’re in the tank (if you choose). Other than that, we provide everything you need (towels, robes, earplugs, body wash/shampoo, moisturizer, tea, water...)

Can more than one person float in a tank at a time?

Yes! Check out our page on Tandem Floats.

What’s the longest someone has been in the tank?

There is a float centre in Portland Oregon called Float On that had an endurance athlete rent a room for a 24 hour period and apparently floated for most of that time! We haven’t heard of anyone floating longer than that.

Who invented these crazy devices?

Dr. John C. Lily, an American physician, neuroscientist, psychoanalyst, psychonaut, philosopher, writer and inventor. Read the HISTORY HERE

Is this some hipster new-agey mumbo jumbo?

Floating has been around for over 50 years and has loads of published scientific research to back it up. No mumbo jumbo here.

How do you clean the tanks?

The water is fully filtered 3-5 times between each float, passing through an intense filtration system for particulate matter and then a UV filter which targets the DNA and RNA of any bacteria, viruses, algae and other biological matter. We also treat the water with a 35% hydrogen peroxide. Furthermore, the Epsom salt solution is naturally sanitary; the combination of the high concentrations of Epsom salt and a small amount of disinfectant make it cleaner than a pool or hot tub and nearly impossible for microorganisms to survive.

Will I become a dehydrated raisin from soaking for so long?

Nope - your skin doesn’t even prune up at all! The magnesium sulfate actually makes your skin very silky and soft. You will absorb some of the Epsom salt, so it’s advised that you to drink plenty of water or tea after your float.

Is there a place to keep my stuff secure while I float?

Each float room is private so you’re ok to leave your stuff on the bench beside the tank while you float.

Can I float for longer than 90min?

Of course! There are several ways to go about this..

-You can book back-back sessions for a 2.5 hour float.

-If no one is scheduled to float after you, we’ll always offer to extend your float

-Memberships are available and can be used to book longer sessions at a more affordable price

Is this like the movie ‘altered states’?

Yes, but you’re not fully submerged in water, you don’t eat ritualistic mushrooms, and only a small percentage of floaters turn into proto-human monkeys.

Is there a right way to do it?

Nope. Each person should find whatever position is comfortable for them. Some people float with their hands at their sides, some with their hands folded across their chest or abdomen, or behind their heads. You can keep your head at either end or sit up if you like. You may float with the door open or closed. Explore what’s best for you!

Can I float if I just dyed my hair?

While there is no guarantee that the salt won’t strip some color from your hair, we recommend that you check if the water running through your hair in the shower at home is fully clear. If there is still some color coming out you should wait a couple of more days/showers. We don’t want to damage our float solution with dyes, either, which is one of the reasons we ask guests sign a liability waiver.
